Spring Game Activities Include Former Huskers

A large contingent of former Husker football players will converge on Lincoln for Spring Game Weekend on April 15-16. Among the players on hand for the Red-White Spring Game will be a group of former Nebraska players currently playing in the National Football League.

Among the former Huskers committed to attend are Mike Minter and Mike Rucker, teammates with the Carolina Panthers. Rucker and Minter are among the leaders on the Panthers' defense, which consistently ranks among the best in the NFL, and helped Carolina to an appearance in the Super Bowl following the 2003 season. Minter was a first-team All-Big 12 pick for Nebraska in 1996, while Rucker ranks in the top 10 in school history in both tackles for loss and sacks.

The Panther teammates will speak at the sold-out Spring Game Luncheon, which will be held at the NU Coliseum on Saturday morning. In addition to Minter and Rucker, Head Coach Bill Callahan and Athletic Director Steve Pederson, two-time Super Bowl champion Russ Hochstein will take part in the luncheon. Hochstein has played a key role on the New England Patriots offensive line each of the past two seasons, helping the team to back-to-back NFL titles. A native of Hartington, Neb., Hochstein earned All-Big 12 honors for Nebraska in both 1999 and 2000.

Hochstein, Minter and Rucker will be joined on the field an hour before the 12:30 kickoff for a "team" picture with their fellow former Huskers in the National Football League. Before kickoff, each NFL player in attendance will be part of a special tunnel walk leading up to the 2005 Huskers taking the field for the Red-White Game. Several NFL players will also be a part of Pinnacle Sports' two-hour pre-game show from the Husker Nation Pavilion on Stadium Drive, west of Memorial Stadium.

First Annual Spring Game Lettermen's Classic

In addition to the NFL players in attendance, all Husker football lettermen have been invited to participate in the First Annual Spring Game Lettermen's Golf Classic at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course. The event will be co-hosted by the Nebraska coaching staff and the 2004 Husker senior class, and will begin with an 11 a.m. lunch, followed by golf at noon. The day will conclude with a reception for golfers and former football lettermen at Wilderness Ridge.

All former letterwinners are also asked to meet before the game in the N-Club Lounge, just off the Southeast corner of Tom Osborne Field. Shortly before kickoff, the letterwinners will be asked to form the tunnel to welcome the NFL players and the 2005 Huskers to the field.

More details on activities surrounding the Spring Game will be announced in the coming days, including a full list of NFL players who are scheduled to attend.
