JORDAN PUGH, CB, 5'11, 180, 4.45, PLANO (WEST HS), TEXAS:
Every college football team wants a cornerback who can run, but also one who plays physical enough to battle at the line of scrimmage and support the run. Jordan Pugh is just that kind of player.
Pugh played a bunch his sophomore and even started one game at cornerback. Last season, Pugh was the full-time starter at cornerback, plus he was both the punt and kick returner on special teams.
"Playing corner is fun because you have a new challenge every week," said Pugh. "I like unique and new challenges and that is the one position where you get that every week. I also like to compete against the best athletes and most teams put some of their best athletes at wide receiver."
Last season, Pugh finished with 40 tackles, three interceptions and four pass break-ups. Pugh has never lined up on offense thus far at West High, but could see some duty wide receiver this season.
"That is one thing that I have like about how Arkansas is recruiting me," said Pugh. "They have told me that they like me at cornerback, on kick returns and that they see me playing some wide receiver. That appeals to me and is something that I think I would like to try."
Pugh can bench 300 pounds, squats 400 and he has posted a 32-inch vertical jump. Pugh runs track and competes in the 100M (10.6), 200M (21.67), and he runs the anchor on the 4X200 relay and the third leg on the 4X100 relay.
Pugh has not been to any camps or junior days thus far, but he plans to take unofficial visits to Texas A&M and Arkansas this summer. Pugh, who has been offered by 28 schools at this point, is still in the process of narrowing down his choices.
"The schools that I like right now are Texas A&M, Arkansas and LSU," said Pugh. "Those would be my top three right now. Oklahoma has offered me, but I haven't heard much from them. My coach tells me that I have been offered by them, but I haven't received an official letter from them. Once I find out that they have officially offered me, I will get a lot more serious about them.
"Right now it is real tight between Texas A&M and Arkansas as my favorite. There are a lot of things that I like about both schools, and once I visit both schools this summer that will tell me a lot."
Pugh has his GPA and is running his test score through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
