Huskers offer DE from Georgia

At 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds one would expect to see him lining up at defensive end. However, this defensive end has speed. Not just a little bit, but a lot. He wants to try and trim that time down two-tenths this summer so he can make the transition from defensive end to linebacker this fall for his team.

That's right, a 6-foot-3 and 260 pound linebacker. Byron Isom (pronounced I-zum) of Lovejoy (GA) is spending his time this summer working and working out. He has some serious goals in mind when it comes to preparing for the fall.

"I am working and working out, that is about it," Isom said. "I am working on my foot speed and trying to get quicker. I am also trying to work on my speed. They are trying to play me at linebacker this year."

Currently Isom has a 4.8 40-yard dash which is very, very respectable for any defensive end. Almost incredible for a 6-foot-3 and 260 pound defensive end, but it won't be fast enough for him to make the transition to linebacker.

"I really want to get it to a 4.6, but I think that it'll be some time before I can do it. I really think that I can do it."

Although Isom seems like he will be seeing his time from the linebacker position this fall he is being recruited heavily by colleges as a defensive end. He also prefers the defensive end position as opposed to linebacker.

"I have a mixture between strength and speed which makes it tough to stop me. When my opponents are bigger than me I can use my speed and when I can beat them with my strength I just do that. I can also mix that up too."

Isom is up to 24 offers and has a top five right now. "I have a top five. I like South Carolina, Florida, Michigan, Auburn and Tennessee. Distance isn't a big thing for me when it comes to picking out a school."

"I am looking at my education first when it comes to picking out a school. I will also look at the scenery and the area as well as how well I fit in there."

Nothing is solid about where Isom plans on taking his five official visits right now. "Yes sir, I am pretty open on my official visits still."

Isom is holding an offer from Nebraska and despite them not being in his current top five they and their recruiting coach have made an impression on Isom. "I am still considering them, sir. Coach John Blake is recruiting me from Nebraska."

"I have talked to him twice during the evaluation period. I called him one time. He is down to Earth and he is asking me about coming up to Nebraska for an official. I haven't spoke to him much lately."

"I really don't know much about Nebraska, but I know that they have a good tradition. They have national championships and that I like."
