2001 Husker Camp MVP - James Ryan

James Ryan, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive lineman from Batavia, Illinois was the O-Line CO-MVP in last summers Nebraska camp. Ryan will be back in 2002. Ryan just returned home from a visit with Michigan.

James Ryan, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman from Batavia, Illinois will be among the top prospects in the Midwest.

Ryan will be a four-year starter for Batavia head coach, Mike Gaspari and he's one of the most talented lineman I've seen on film this year.

Ryan doesn't have a scholarship offer right now but the there's an explanation for that. Ryan missed most of his junior season with a knee injury. The knee didn't require surgery and he's now 100%.

College coaches don't have a lot of film to go off of so most staffs are taking the cautious route and will evaluate Ryan after a couple of games in 2002.

"I visited Michigan this past weekend and I loved it." Ryan said. "The Michigan coaches were very genuine and I liked the way they ran practice.

The team (Michigan) was working real hard and everyone seemed to be fighting for a job. We even saw a few scuffles. I like that kind of stuff.

I had a chance to talk to Coach (Lloyd) Carr and he said they wanted to offer me a scholarship but I didn't play much my junior season. They're going to look at my senior tape and hopefully they'll offer me after that.

I'm on spring break this week so I'll probably visit a few more schools. My top schools are still the same. I like Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame."

Ryan is a solid prospect that's going to have a big year in 2002. Whichever school shows faith in his ability early and offer a scholarship before next season may have a hand up on the competition.
