Nebraska Verbal Commit - Josh Mueller

Josh Mueller will have surgery this morning and he's supposed to recover 100% before the season starts. Josh talks about that surgery and Columbus (Lakeview) head coach, Curt Frenzen talks about his prized recruit.

Nebraska has a verbal commitment from Columbus (NE) Lakeview athlete Josh Mueller. Mueller is 6-foot-7, 245-pounds and he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.95 seconds.

Lakeview Head Coach Curt Frenzen had high praise for his star recruit.

"Josh is a specimen," Frenzen said.

"He's probably the best athlete I've ever coached. We actually use him as a running back. He (Mueller) gained 250 yards in one game and he also had another 200 plus yards in another game.

"We also used Josh as a linebacker but I thought we messed up there a little bit. We should have had him at the defensive end position."

Which position does the Nebraska see Mueller helping them at in the near future?

"Nebraska wants Josh to play tight end. I think he'll be a force for them at that position. He was timed at 4.9 in the 40-yard dash at Nebraska's camp last year and that was electronic."

Is Josh Mueller's commitment solid with Nebraska? Will he look around?

"To tell you the truth, things have heated up more since Josh has verbally committed. Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa State are all still sending letters.

"I told Wisconsin that Josh is committed to Nebraska and they've stopped sending correspondence. They are the only school that has done that though. I think his commitment to Nebraska is solid."

Mueller will be going under the knife today but should make a full recovery before next season.

"I'm going to have some ligament damage repaired in my shoulder," Mueller said. "The doctors have told me that I'll be 100% for football season."

Why did Mueller choose Nebraska? Which other schools did he consider before verbally committing to the Huskers?

"Well, my mom (Marla) is a graduate of Nebraska and she played volleyball." Mueller said.

"I just liked the players and the coaches. I got along real well with everyone so I decided to commit early. I was looking at Texas, Notre Dame and Iowa State before I committed.

"I'm not going anywhere else and I'm not going to visit any other schools. I'm going to be a Husker."

Because of his shoulder surgery, Mueller won't attend any summer camps. He's also a standout in basketball. He's undecided in which major he'll pursue at Nebraska.

Sounds like the Huskers got themselves a good one in Josh Mueller.
