NU Plays to 1-1 Tie in Red/White Scrimmage

In the Nebraska soccer team's Red/White scrimmage on Saturday, senior Nikki Baker scored the lone goal for the White squad, while freshman Lauren Isenhower added the only goal for the Red team, as the game ended in a 1-1 tied Saturday afternoon at the Nebraska Soccer Field.

In a 25-minute first half, Baker found the back of the net just seven minutes into the game to give the White team, composed mainly of juniors and seniors, a 1-0 lead. Junior Brittany Timko had a pair of chances to add to the lead in the 11th minute, but her first shot bounded off the crossbar and her second attempt was punched away by a diving Jamie Klages, one of two freshmen goalkeepers for the Huskers.

In the 20-minute second half, five players switched teams and the Red squad tied the game 8:09 into the half on Isenhower''s goal. In a well-fought contest, neither team was able to score the rest of the period and the game was ruled a tie.

For the game, each team attempted 10 shots, with the Red owning a 4-3 shots-on-goal advantage. In net, junior Katie Wright played only the first half, recording one save while not allowing a goal. Klages recorded four saves, allowing two goals, while fellow freshman Brittany Pfeil was in net for the White team the entire second half.

The Huskers open the regular season on Friday with a 5 p.m. contest against Minnesota at the Nebraska Soccer Field. Fans are encouraged to park in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage for that game and may enter the stadium by the columns near the east side of Memorial Stadium.
