Gerald McCoy Forges Bond With Big Red Staff Member

In looking for depth and especially talent along the defensive line, height, size and speed all play vital roles in the ideal prospect, amongst other attributes. Enter five-star prospect Gerald McCoy out of Oklahoma. McCoy has already set up some official and unofficial visit and spoke with us a bit about his relationship with Nebraska. Only we found out that his relationship isn't so much with the Cornhuskers themselves, but rather a particular member of their staff.

A lot of things can draw a recruit to a school, especially one like Nebraska.  Playing time, new facilities, a fan base that loves the game, the recruiting tools are far from in short supply.  Gerald McCoy, however, finds himself attracted by one man in particular on Nebraska's staff: Defensive Line Coach John Blake.  "He's a good guy, straight up, he tells you the truth.  He's up front with everything he says.  He's also strong about church and I am as well," he said.

The 6' 4" 285 pound prospect out of Oklahoma City current tallies near 30 offers and is starting to line up some visits both unofficial and official.  Unofficially, he visits LSU in two weeks when they play Tennessee.  He will be visiting Nebraska during the Kansas State weekend of November 12th along with Texas Tech as they take on Oklahoma on September 19th.

Officially, the mammoth five-star prospect will be visiting Miami (FL) on October 22nd as they face Georgia Tech and USC on November 5th as they battle Stanford.  He mentions that all schools are still recruiting him at defensive tackle noting his size and initial jump off of the ball, however, he said, he would like to improve his quickness after the initial first step.
