Georgia DT Eyes Big Red Official

Nebraska continues to scour the land for the top prospects on both offense and defense as the recruiting trail hits one of its most furious times with the kickoff of the college football season. Defensive tackle prospect Byron Isom checked in and spoke with us about his current favorites, his official visit plans and how he felt about the Cornhuskers.

After being offered by Illinois a couple weeks ago, Isom's total offer number rises to around 25.  He has proposals from South Carolina, Auburn, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Florida, Nebraska and Michigan to name a few.  Currently, his favorite school is South Carolina with Auburn and Florida battling for the number two position.

He plans to take a trip to Georgia this upcoming weekend as the Bulldogs take on the Boise State Broncos.  He is scheduled to visit South Carolina officially on September 17th when they play Alabama and he also would like to get to Florida and Auburn officially.

When looking at what Isom hopes to improve on in the upcoming season, he said, "I'm just trying to improve on my first step off the ball and trying to get quicker, get more sacks and stay healthy in the long run," he said.

Most schools are recruiting Isom for the defensive line in some way, shape or form with schools slotting him at either end or tackle, but Illinois is tinkering with the idea of placing him at linebacker should they garner his commitment.

Said Isom of his relationship with Nebraska, "They're still in it.  I get mail from them every day and I get plenty of literature.  I really like their weight room so that'll probably be the fourth official visit.  I respect the tradition and when Coach (John) Blake came down we got along well," he said.
