Bargen Promoted to Asst Athletic Director

Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson announced on Wednesday that Gary Bargen has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Compliance.

Gary Bargen has been a member of the Nebraska Athletic Department staff for 19 years, including each of the last six years as director of compliance. In his role, Bargen is responsible for ensuring that the conduct and operations of the Nebraska's 23 athletic teams are in compliance with NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules and regulations.

"Gary has been a key member of the athletic department team and this is recognition of the importance of his role and contributions," Pederson said. "Gary has not only earned the respect of everyone in this department, but those across the nation as well. We are pleased to reward Gary for excellent work."

Bargen first joined the Nebraska compliance staff in 1995 and spent four years as the assistant director of compliance. Previously, Bargen spent nine years as an assistant men's basketball coach for the Huskers, beginning with the 1986-87 season. Bargen was a part of four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Hardy, Neb., Bargen compiled a 199-56 record as head coach at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, twice earning Region VI Coach-of-the-Year honors. Before going to Hutchinson, Bargen spent nine years as head coach and athletic director at Southeast (Neb.) Community College, where his teams earned a 140-68 record.

Bargen earned his bachelor's (1964) and master's (1968) degrees from Nebraska.
