"I just committed!"

This has been a huge weekend for Nebraska one and off the field. While Nebraska fell in the contest to Oklahoma yesterday there still was the chance to land some of the talented players on official visits this weekend. Nebraska fans will be happy to know that from one of the biggest recruiting weekends in recent memory that Nebraska got one of their top targets at defensive end.

The Huskers got a good one today in a commitment from Mike Smith from Las Vegas (Nev.) Palo Verde. The 6-foot-6.5 and 250 pound Smith saw what he needed to see to make the commitment this weekend.

"Yeah, I just committed!" Smith said. "It wasn't so much football that made me want to commit. It was the academics like the support and the academic All-Americans."

Smith was blown away by the experience in Lincoln despite Nebraska not winning the game this weekend.

"It was awesome. It was too bad that they couldn't pull it off at the end."

Smith caught up with a familiar person in Lincoln this weekend. Seth Jensen met Mike at the spring game earlier this year.

"Seth is really cool. I spoke to him at the spring game. I haven't seen him play before, but I am excited for the years to come in Lincoln."

The process is coming to a close and Smith admittedly feels like he made the right decision for him and his family, but can't help but feel two different emotions right now.

"I really don't know what to say. It just makes me feel good to get the weight off of my shoulders when I committed."

"I still feel bad that I have to tell the other coaches that I can't make the trips to see their schools because I committed to Nebraska."

Husker fans are happy though, and Big Red Report will continue to bring you the most in-depth coverage of the recruiting weekend.
