Nebraska Double-Dip, Game 2

With only a brief respite from the troubles in game one, NU didn't have time to think about pitching that went amiss and bats that couldn't catch up with a gutsy performance by the KU starter. Game 1 was over and just as soon as that, Game 2 began. Nebraska needed to mount something to keep their dwindling regular season conference title hopes alive and it was up to Duensing and company to make it happen.

From the struggles of game one, Nebraska came roaring back in typical fashion, but not just with the bats. Brian Duensing went 7 and a 1/3 allowing just one earned run from five hits and he struck out two.

Though NU's bats started off slugglishly, a Jed Morris home run helped to ignite the Huskers in the 5th and Nebraska never looked back, scoring in each inning after. Jed Morris added a grand slam in the eighth that went all the way into the parking lot of Haymarket Park breaking the game wide-open, 9-1. This marked the second multi-home game of the season for the Husker catcher.

Jeremy Becker was able to close the door on KU allowing one hit through two innings, striking out one.

This split with KU runs the Huskers' record to 30-15 and a 14-10 record in the Big XII conference. Nebraska will now play host to Wichita State for one game and then, it's down to Austin where Nebraska will try to take the Big XII conference crown from the Horns or at least, try for a share.

Rumors abound to Shane Komine's reappearance against Texas, but nothing certain has been said concerning his ability to go, so the starting rotation could either be Marsden, Rodrigue and Duensing or if Rodrigue is pulled, you could see anyone from Byers to Sillman on the mound for the Saturday game.
