On the week, Griffin hit nearly 65 percent of her shots from the field and 75 percent of her free throw attempts to help the Huskers start the Big 12 season with a 2-0 record for the second straight year. Griffin ranks among the top freshmen in the Big 12 in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Tigers earned their first Associated Press Top 25 ranking since Dec. 30, 1984, debuting in the poll at No. 24 on Monday afternoon. Missouri returns five seasoned starters from last year's club, including Big 12 Conference Player-of-the-Week LaToya Bond. The 5-7 guard averaged 20.5 points and hit 14-of-23 shots from the field in MU wins over defending national champion Baylor and Kansas State last week.
Bond scored 21 points and played the full 40 minutes in the Tigers' win over the No. 4 Lady Bears, ending Baylor's 30-game winning streak with a 64-61 victory in Columbia. She added 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field in just 27 minutes in MU's runaway win over Kansas State in Columbia on Saturday.
Bond, who has scored 20 or more points on six occasions this season, helped Missouri extend its winning streak to 11 games before coming to Lincoln. She is averaging 18.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
