School: Daytona Beach (Flor.) Mainland
Position(s) played last year: Offensive Tackle
Stats: Did not allow a sack his senior year.
Honors: "I didn't get anything this year. I guess that they wanted to give it to some other guys this year. Some guys weren't as highly of recruited as I was. The coach need to put in the word on who he wants. I didn't get anything."
Official Visit Date: November 11, Kansas State
Enjoyed the most on official visit: "The coaches. When I went up there I had dinner with the coaches. I liked the game too. I liked the atmosphere. I hadn't seen anything like that before. I had a really good time."
Biggest factor in choosing Nebraska: "I'd say academics. Knowing that they are very strong in academics. I was surprised by how many academic all-Americans they had. They had 226 or something like that. I didn't even know before hand that they won five national championships. Overall, I was pretty surprised by the amount of success they have had."
What are you looking forward to the most when it comes to getting to Nebraska: "Definitely getting used to it. Getting to know the place. Getting a jump-start with summer school. Getting to workouts and getting ready to next season. I know that I will be living with Pierre Allen. He'll be my roommate."
Funny recruiting story: "One time, Coach Jordan was down here, and I guess that it was some time after I committed. That was the time that everyone was saying 'O.K., Cruz committed. Let's get after him.'. Florida and Florida State showed up at my school and I had basketball practice and all three of them were waiting to talk to me. I was on my way home and Coach Jordan was following me home to my house. At my house Florida State was waiting at my door. They were cool with it. The coaches for Florida State just waited outside and asked if it would be O.K. if they talk to me when I was done. I pretty much stayed inside with Coach Jordan in my apartment. Then Coach Sexton called and I said that I was still talking to Coach Jordan."
"Then when I was up there, I was standing next to Russell Okung, and there were some fans that had a sign with his name and his high school number on it. One of them guys asked who I was. I didn't have my nametag yet because I just got in and the players were all warming up. Then I said, "Oh, my name is Cruz, you don't know me." He said wait a minute, wait a minute. And he pulled out a big sign with my name on it too. It was pretty funny. My number was on it too."
Number desired: "66". That was my high school number and that is the number that I pretty much established around this area. Everyone knows my number. Since Le Kevin Smith is a senior, I think that I can get the number and do something with it. I found out when I went up there that was Seth Jensen's number too. We were kidding around about it. We said that we could share the number because he is on defense and I am on offense. But, if it changes that we can't do that and give up the number. He was talking about that. He said that he would deal with that. His mom and dad were telling me that Seth has 66 first. I told that I would do a deal with them and when we do practice I would do Oklahoma drill or war drill and whoever wins gets the number. We were just having fun."
Message to Husker Nation: "I'd tell them that they can expect me to be working hard and trying my best. I want to give them something to look forward to. Come out and keep supporting."
