One that won't be in Lincoln this weekend

Spring games are always a good time to bring out recruits. This coming weekend is Nebraska's spring game which also falls on Easter weekend making it tough for some to travel. Others have already come to Lincoln for junior day about two weeks ago. One from the Dallas area was set to attend Nebraska for their spring game, but the plans fell through.

One of the best players in the Dallas area had set up tentative plans to get to Lincoln for the spring game. Ron Brooks from Irving (Texas) MacArthur is a 6-foot, 170 pound athlete that would have been an A-list visitor in Lincoln

"I won't be able to go," Brooks said. "I couldn't find a way up there. I was planning on going."

The last time that Big Red Report caught up with Brooks it didn't seem that Nebraska was one of the favorites. Brooks said that there aren't any favorites and Nebraska, and anyone who has offered, are all still being considered.

"I am considering Nebraska. I haven't ruled anyone out right now. I am keeping all of my options open. I am just trying to get out and see some schools right now so I can make the best decision. I might make it up to a camp (to Nebraska)."

"I am trying to get some money together so I can travel this summer as much as possible. I would like to visit Florida, LSU, Nebraska and basically everywhere else that I haven't been that has offered. That would be Purdue, Wisconsin and I haven't seen Texas A&M."

Brooks has had a chance to see a couple of schools so far. Ironically, they happen to be two teams that might be part of the biggest rivalry in the nation; Oklahoma and Texas.

"I visited Texas. I just got back from Texas yesterday. I was down there for Texas Relays. It was crazy. I liked it a lot. I don't have an offer from Texas, yet. Not an official offer at least."

"I've also been to Oklahoma. It was cool. It was an unofficial visit. There really wasn't anything going, but from what I saw I liked it. I liked the facilities and stuff like that."

Brooks couldn't say which school he liked better than the other because he couldn't get a real good feel for what life might be like in Oklahoma. "I really couldn't tell you where I fit in better. Everyone was on spring break at Oklahoma and there wasn't anything going on."

Brooks will be making an easy trip tomorrow. "Me and a couple of other recruits will be taking a trip to TCU on Tuesday (tomorrow). I am going there with Brett Harris who is our defensive back and Kelly Griffin who is our defensive end. I know Brett has an offer from Nebraska. I don't know if Kelly has any offers yet."

Other than making some trips this summer, Brooks and MacArthur plan to play seven on seven. Brooks will be under center. "I'll be playing seven on seven this summer. Most definitely. I am going to be playing quarterback. I don't know if I will be playing defense yet. Primarily I will be running the spread as the quarterback."
