Safety picks up big offer from Big Red

The have been stories written as far back as this player's sophomore year. It was obvious over a year ago that his talent would lead to offers and that he had the potential to not only be one of the best in the state of Texas, but in the nation. It was just a matter of time and it seems that the floodgates have started to open. An offer from Nebraska is now in his hands, as well as his team mate's, can Nebraska lure them both north.

People have been hearing about Tekerrian Cuba now for a good year or so. The big-time safety from Tyler (Texas) Lee is getting a lot of attention since the evaluation period started. It's obvious as to why. He is a 6-foot-2, 200 pound safety who runs a 4.44 40-yard dash.

"The eavluation period is going fine," Cuba said. "Arkansas, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, Missouri, Duke and Nebraska have all been out here to see me. I didn't get to talk to him, but I saw a guy in a Nebraska shirt."

Beyond schools showing up to take a look, there are schools that are calling Cuba doring this contact period. "I have gotten calls from Missouri, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, LSU and Florida for starters."

While Cuba is a standout at the safety position at Lee High School, not all colleges are looking at him just to play safety in college. He is getting looks to play another defensive position as well as on the offesnive side of the ball.

"Not everyone is looking at me to play safety in college. Missouris is looking at me to play cornerback. Texas Tech is talking about me playing wide receiver. The rest of them are looking at me to play safety."

Cuba has made his mark on defense in hih school. He may not care which position gets him on the field in college, but he did amit to a preference to a side of the football he would like to play.

"It doesn't matter which position I play really. I just want to get on the field. I prefer playing defense over offense. I like hitting people. I also can play cneterfield and play the ball."

Cuba isn't sure what his stats were last year, but they were good enough for him to earn first team honors in his district. A very tough district. "I am not sure what my stats were last year. I have to talk to my coach about that. I did win first team all-district for safety."

Currently Cuba is sitting on three offers with the latest coming just a day ago. He admits that there is something about each team that has offered him so far that he likes. All of the teams that have offered him so far are looking him to play defense in college.

"I have offers from Missouri, Kansas State offered me two to three weeks ago and Nebraska offered me yesterday. I like how Missouri plays cover two. It puts me deep and gives me a chance to get interceptions. Kansas State runs a lot of cover two and man. I like the defense that Nebraska runs and how aggressive they are."

Cuba is looking for some specific things when it comes to pickin out a school. It will focus on academics and the football team. There is also some thoughts about going far away to school or not.

"Academics are first and then football for me when it comes to my decision. I don't know what I want to major in. I will be looking at graduation rate. I will also look at the coaching staff and the depth chart on the football part. I don't really want to go too far away, but Missouri or Nebraska aren't too far away."
