Nicks says that he is ready to go

One of the more heralded recruits for the class of 2006 has to be junior college offensive lineman, Carl Nicks. Who, if you have seen him on film, you understand why there might be some anticipation of him getting to Lincoln. However, there have been recent disappointments with junior college players coming in late and not in great shape. Nicks is planning on doing something different.

The school year is wrapping up for Carl Nicks at Salinas (Calif.) Hartnell. There is just a couple of weeks left in the academic year and Nicks is ready to get it over with.

"Things are going pretty good," Nicks said. "I have a couple of more weeks to go. I have a dead week and I have finals."

Despite the end of the school year there will be some time off between when school is over and when Nicks is expected to be in Lincoln. He is targeting a date a little later in the summer.

"I really don't know an exact date. It will probably be the 30th of July or so before I leave to get to Nebraska."

Although football was over, Nicks was still athletically involved this past semester. He was in track and field and had a solid year throwing the shot put.

"I threw the shot this past year. It went pretty good, too. I got second in the state in the shot. My longest throw was 64-9."

Now, throwing the shot isn't exactly good conditioning work, but Nicks said that there was conditioning and that he has been working out on his own to get ready for this fall. He has had the workout guide from Nebraska for some time.

"I think that I am in pretty good shape right now. I have to do some conditioning in track, but I have been doing the most on the side. I have the Nebraska program and I have been using it."

While July isn't June it isn't August either. Nicks will be in Lincoln soon and he will be coming with his family. "I'll be there at the end of July. Me and the family are coming to Lincoln soon."
