Gorsett-NCBWA District VII Player of the Year

University of Nebraska outfielder Luke Gorsett, was honored Sunday, as he was named the District VII Player of the Year from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCBWA)....................

Luke Gorsett, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals last Tuesday, was selected for the honor after leading the Nebraska baseball team to 42 wins and a No. 6 National seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Denver, Colo., native enjoyed a strong 2006 campaign, hitting .348 with 15 homers and 48 RBI, ranking among the Big 12 leaders in homers (second), slugging percentage (second), total bases (133, eighth) and batting average (15th). A first-team All-Big 12 selection, Gorsett was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Trophy and the Brooks Wallace Award and was named an All-American from the College Baseball Foundation.

Other winners in the nine districts across the country included Pittsburgh second baseman Jim Negrych (District I), Monmouth shortstop Nick Massari (II), Kentucky first baseman Ryan Strieby (III), James Madison outfielder Kellen Kulbacki (IV), Ohio State third baseman Ronnie Bourquin (V), Houston pitcher/designated hitter Brad Lincoln (VII), Utah shortstop Ryan Khoury (VIII) and Cal State Fullerton pitcher Wes Roemer (IX)
