Bass is holding a Nebraska offer

Plano (Texas) West is a fairly young school, however it has already become a very popular stop for some of the nation's best schools to scout. Last year it was Jordan Pugh, a very physical and athletic corner, and this year it's Ben Bass. He's already holding a dozen offers, one from Nebraska, and has a solid leader. Is it Nebraska?

Ben Bass is just a very big, physical defensive end. The standout from Plano (Texas) West is 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, but has a 4.8/40 to go with it. He hasn't been taking part in passing league, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy.

"The summer is going pretty good," Bass said. "I don't play seven on seven, but we have the lineman challenge. It's like for offensive and defensive lineman. We have ladder, running and weight lifting drills we do."

A man with that size and already that speed doesn't have a lot of refining that he has to do. However, he still has some things that he would like to improve on. "I have been working mostly on my speed and agility. I have also been working on my strength."

Spring ball is a great chance for players to get a taste for the upcoming season and of what recruiting might be like. Bass liked hat he saw this spring and said that he has high hopes for West this fall.

"Spring ball was good. We have all of our offensive line, quarterback, and half of our defense back. We are looking pretty good."

"I hope that we finish first in our district and go onto playoffs. I hope to go at least three rounds deep in the playoffs. Some pretty high expectations."

Bass will be the starting tackle at West this fall as well as defensive end. He is getting the most attention at one of those positions. "Most teams are looking at me to play defensive end. I am a great pass rusher on defense. I like to get after the quarterback."

It's a dozen offers for Bass now and it's getting increasingly difficult for Bass to remember them all. He gave it his best effort though.

"I am up to 12 offers as of right now. I can name most of them. There is Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona, TCU, Ole Miss, Nebraska and that is all of them that I can name off of the top of my head."

Out of the 12 offers he has a clear favorite. Beyond that though there are another four that are standing out. "My favorite is definitely Texas A&M. After that it's Oklahoma and LSU. Then it's Oklahoma State and Arkansas. I just like the coaches and players at Texas A&M."

A&M has an ace in the hole with a former player of West already down at College Station. "Jordan Pugh, a player from Texas A&M, who committed from Plano West last year. I really get a long with him and I like the way that I fit in when I was there. It was the whole deal."

The summer visits are set to take off for Bass in the next couple of weeks. "I am going to take some visits in the upcoming weeks. I am going down to Texas A&M either this week or next week. I am going to Oklahoma, LSU and Oklahoma after that."

When Bass makes his decision it will be based not just on one or two things. Instead it will be a whole package. "I am just looking at how I fit in with the team and the facilities. I am also looking for how the school is. Everything really. I am looking for the whole package."
