"I have narrowed my favorites down to six schools," said Brian Smith. "My favorites are Kansas State, Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan, Michigan State and Iowa. All the schools have offered except Michigan."
"I have not been on any visits this month. I will take an unofficial visit to Iowa early August. They have invited me to come to one of their practices."
Smith talks about his favorites.
Kansas State: "Kansas State was my first offer. Coach [Raheem] Morris and I are real close. I really like their coaching staff and what they have to offer."
Nebraska: "Nebraska is really nice. I talked to coach [Bill] Callahan for a while when I went there. I talked to a few other coaches as well. I enjoy spending time with coach Callahan. We had a heart-to-heart conversation. He told me about his career and asked me how I feel about Nebraska."
Michigan: "Michigan came to my school during the May evaluation period. When I went to camp I talked to coach [Andy] Moeller. I have a good relationship with him. I am a real big fan of Big 10 football as well."
Michigan State: "I sat down with coach John L. Smith. I didn't know if i would get to talk to him or not because I stopped by there after going to Michigan. I really enjoyed speaking with him."
Iowa: "They produce some of best linebackers in the country. When I went to their camp we watched highlights of different positions. I really liked watching Abdul Hodge and Chad Greenway. They make a lot of big hits and have great speed. I feel like I am the same way."
Missouri: "They were my second offer. I have been talking to the coaches from there for a bit. I like coach [Dave] Steckel. He is real likeable guy, and I like being around him. I like coach [Gary] Pinkel as well. I like the city of Columbia."
When asked time-frame for his decision Smith replied, "If it takes one, it takes one. If it takes five, it takes five. I will know where I want to go as soon as I get that game-day experience."
Smith will base his college decision on several factors.
"I will base it on the player-coach relationship and early playing opportunity," he said. "I am going to see the coach every day for next four to five years. I want to have a good relationship with him. I love to be on the field and contribute to the team. I hate sitting on the bench."
