Tupou taking in Nebraska visit this weekend

Replacing Adam Carriker and Jay Moore have to be two of Nebraska's biggest priorities in this recruiting class. They are after a monster of a defensive end from Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union who could come in and play immediately. This defensive end will be in Lincoln for an official visit to see them take on Troy.

He's big and he's fast. Christian Tupou is physically ready to play at the next level right now. At 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds he still has a good 40 time at 4.9. He and his team, Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union, are off to a very good start right now.

"We're 3-0 right now," Tupou said. "I have a lot of tackles, but just not a lot of sacks. I have a lot of tackles, a lot of forced fumbles and one blocked punt this past Friday. A lot of teams run away from me."

Tupou is holding some very nice offers right now and said that recruiting has picked up since college coaches can start calling again. "Recruiting is going alright. I am up to five offers. They are from Sacramento State, Arizona, BYU, Reno and Nebraska."

The official visits start this weekend for Tupou who is heading out to the school that has offered that is furthest away. After that though, he has two other officials set up for dates a bit further down the road.

"I am supposed to be going to Nebraska this week. I just got that set up about a month ago. I am supposed to be going to Arizona and BYU in the future."

Coming from California it's safe to assume that Tupou hasn't been to Nebraska before. "I just want to see if I fit in with the program. I want to witness the chemistry there and see if I see myself playing with those guys in the future."

"Coach Dennis Wagner is the one recruiting me from Nebraska. I think that he is a really good guy. He's been straight forward with me."

Tupou says that physically he is a very aggressive defensive end. He has had a lot of success using the bull rush technique over and over again on tackles because they just can't stop him.

"My physical strength. Usually you can go against someone and one move won't work all night. But, I can just do one move all night and it will work. I just bull rush my guy and I easily beat the guy that I am on."

Besides the bull rush though, Tupou has good athletic ability and is natural in his pursuit of the ball carrier. "Also, it's my speed off of the ball. I have really good vision and it's my pursuit to the play."

A mission is something that might get some attention a little later in the process for Tupou, but as for now he isn't thinking about it. "I am not considering a mission, but I will think about it when the time gets there."
