Bernstine is an athlete and is put together physically enough to be able to play as a true freshman potentially at the next level. The 5-foot-11 and 185 pound Bernstine has legit 4.4 time in the 40 and is leading Des Moines (Iowa) Lincoln so far this year.
"Actually our season is going pretty good," Bernstine said. "We're 6-1 right now. We lost one game 6-0, but other than that we have been having a pretty good season."
"Personally, I've got four interceptions. I have ten total touchdowns. I have a couple receiving touchdowns, seven are rushing touchdowns and one is a kickoff return. I have over 600 yards rushing on offense."
Bernstine's skills actually would allow for him to be an asset to a team on offense or defense. Some teams have spoken to him about this, but the majority like him on defense.
"Some people have talked about giving me a shot on offense, but everyone still likes me as a safety. I just love to hit people from my safety spot. I have knack for being around the football at the right time."
Bernstine is a player has gotten out and taken an early official visit. He hasn't taken any since, but he does have one coming up. "I have one coming up this coming weekend to Nebraska. I have taken an official to Texas A&M earlier this season against Louisiana Tech."
The Texas A&M visit got good marks from Bernstine. "I had a lot of fun. I got to talk to the coaches in person. I also got to see the campus. It was just a good time. I got to see what the fan base was like down there. It was crazy."
So far, Bernstine has only set up one other official visit, but he knows about two others that he would like to take. The fifth may go to the team that rounds out his top five. He just isn't sure about that right now.
"Nebraska is the only other official visit I have set up. Most likely I would like to see Iowa and UCLA. There is one other one, but I don't know to who. My top five is Iowa, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA and Pittsburgh."
Bernstine is looking at a wide array of things when it comes to picking out a school. One of the biggest though is the coaching staff.
"I am looking for somewhere with a good program. I look at coaching staff a lot because they are basically going to be my parents for the next few years. Coaches play a pretty big part to me. Also the overall atmosphere at the school and do I like it."
