Huskers Maul Michigan, 87-47

Chelsea Aubry produced one of the best performances of her career with 18 points, including a career-high four three-pointers to power the No. 25 Nebraska women's basketball team to an 87-47 win over Michigan in front of 3,486 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday.

Chelsea Aubry, a 6-2 senior forward from Kitchener, Ontario, hit 7-of-10 shots from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from three-point range to lead the Huskers. She also tied a career high with four assists to help Nebraska improve to 7-2 on the season, while Michigan slipped to 6-5 on the year.

Aubry, playing in the 100th game of her Nebraska career, produced 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game to shoot the Huskers to a 20-8 lead.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Griffin added 13 points, including 11 points and six rebounds in the first half, to help the Huskers race to a 41-24 halftime advantage.

Freshman forward Cory Montgomery added 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field, as Nebraska's post players combined to hit 19-of-31 shots from the floor for the game.

The Huskers received outstanding contributions across the board, as all 12 Huskers on the roster scored at least two points.

"I thought our players did an excellent job of executing our game plan and doing what we wanted them to do," Nebraska Coach Connie Yori said. "I thought we played unselfish basketball and I was really pleased with the progress that we have seen from our freshmen."

Along with Montgomery's 14 points on a perfect shooting night, freshman guard Nicole Neals scored three points while setting career highs with six rebounds and four assists. Freshman center Nikki Bober added five points, three rebounds and a block, while Kala Kuhlmann contributed a career-high four points and a board. Yvonne Turner added two points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist in extensive playing time.

Nebraska finished the game shooting 51.7 percent (31-60), including 40 percent (8-20) from three-point range. The Huskers also connected on 77.3 percent (17-22) of their free throws. NU outrebounded Michigan 42-29, while forcing 23 Wolverine turnovers. The Huskers forced 15 Michigan miscues in the first half, while committing just 14 turnovers of their own for the entire game.

The Huskers held Michigan to just 34.5 percent (19-55) shooting from the field, including 30.8 percent (4-13) from three-point range. Nebraska also held the Wolverines to just 5-of-9 shooting at the free throw line.

Nebraska will have a week-long break from competition while taking final exams, before returning to the Devaney Center to take on its third straight Big Ten Conference foe. The Huskers play host to Northwestern on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 4:05 p.m.
