Stafford set to see Nebraska

Nebraska has been after Austin Stafford for a while now. Finally, Stafford is set to take his official visit to Nebraska, but recently some other schools have picked up interest. Nebraska may hold a slight advantage coming into the weekend because of their persistence, but can they close him out this weekend?

Nebraska is looking to get another high school linebacker and their months of hard work may be ready to pay off with Austin Stafford. Stafford, a 6-foot-2 and 205-pound linebacker from Hayward (Calif.), is set to see Nebraska.

"Yes, I am going to be in Lincoln this weekend," Stafford said. "I just want to see how the school is and how it functions."

Nebraska will be the furthest east that Stafford will have traveled in his life and he's interested to see what it's like.

"I really want to see if I will be comfortable there. I imagine that the biggest difference between there and here is the weather."

Hayward had a very good season this year, thanks in a big part to Stafford's efforts on defense.

"We had a good season. We were league champs and 3A division champs. I think that we were 12-2."

"I played defensive end. I had 10 sacks during the regular season and then another three and a half in the playoffs."

While Stafford was a defensive end in college, he projects to play outside linebacker in college according to most schools.

"I know that I played defensive end in high school, but I am being recruited to play outside linebacker."

Projecting can be difficult and it's mostly on the player to adjust, but Stafford thinks that he can handle the transition.

"I don't think that it will be an issue, as long as I stay focused. I can adjust easily."

The official visit to Nebraska will be the first for Stafford. He will be traveling with some family, but he isn't certain if he will pull the trigger on a commitment this weekend or not.

"I will be taking the trip with my mom. I may be tempted to commit if everything is right, but I kind of want to wait and see."
