Ross cancels his other visits

On a visit to Nebraska back in October, David Ross gave the Nebraska coaches a commitment with hitch. Ross wanted to take all of his visits, but he saw opportunity in Nebraska. An opportunity to get on the field early and play a lot early. The commitment wasn't really ever accepted under those conditions, but it seems that the conditions have changed again.

David Ross has officially ended the recruiting process and is a Cornhusker. Keith Donerson, coach at Compton (Calif.) Dominguez, said that Ross gave his verbal earlier this week.

"Yes, David did give his 100% commitment to Nebraska earlier in the week," Coach Donerson said. "It was probably Wednesday."

One of the reasons for an extra trip or two was because of a friend taking the same trips. Nothing more according to Coach Donerson.

"His best friend was to take a trip to Washington in the coming weeks and he wanted to take the trip with him. That is all that it was."

The commitment to Nebraska was always there, Ross just also had a commitment to a friend and wanted to go with him on the trip.

"He was always committed to Nebraska. He just wanted to take that trip to Washington with his friend." "I think that he just wanted to take his visit to take the visits. He is a kid that has never been out of Los Angeles," Coach French said. "He is firmly committed to Nebraska."

According to Coach Donerson, the visits to Oregon and Oregon State were cancelled earlier and the visit this weekend to Washington just go cancelled.

"He had already cancelled trips to Oregon and Oregon State and turned one down to Arizona," Coach Donerson said. "He just wanted to take the Washington trip to go with his friend."

Compton Dominguez is a powerhouse and produces some very good cornerbacks. There have been several in the past six years and Coach Donerson says that Ross ranks among the best.

"He's tall, rangy and real physical. We have had some very good cornerbacks in the past six years go to a lot of PAC 10 schools. David ranks with the best of them."

While Ross saw opportunity at Nebraska, another reason Nebraska was able to get Ross was because of the excellent job Coach Bill Busch did with Ross.

"Coach Busch did a real good job with David. He's in the right area and he does his job well."
