Perry is a Husker

The emphasis on defense this year in recruiting for Nebraska was obvious. They have a need to stock up in all areas. Nebraska has also tried to get back into recruiting Texas and have in a big way this year. This latest commitment to Nebraska raises the total to 30 in the class with eight of those from Texas.

Chris Perry committed to Miami very early in the process, but had since re-opened the door. Perry, a 6-foot-3 and 320 pound defensive tackle from Keller (Texas) Fossil Ridge, closed that door again today.

"Yeah, I committed," Perry said. "I committed earlier today."

What might be the biggest question about Perry's commitment is why now? Why before taking official visits to Miami and to Tennessee?

"I just wanted to commit today because of everything that is going on. There's the coaching change at Miami and some other things."

There was a feeling of dread when Coach John Blake left Nebraska because of some irons in the fire with recruiting. However, his replacement seems to be filling the void just fine.

"Coach Buddy Wyatt is the real reason why I committed. I wanted to play for John Blake and I was a little mad about that at first, but it's alright now. Coach Wyatt has made a good impression with me."
