Busboom Added to U.S. Women's National Team

U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team Head Coach "Jenny" Lang Ping has added libero Dani Busboom (Cortland, Neb.) to the national training team, bringing the current squad size to 10 who are practicing at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Dani Busboom moved from setter to libero in 2006 and helped lead Nebraska to its third NCAA Division I national title. The Big 12 co-Libero of the Year, Busboom set a single-season school record with 580 digs, leading the Big 12 with 5.04 digs per game. She became just the second player in Big 12 history to average more than five digs per game. Busboom totaled a career-high 29 digs in the 2006 NCAA semifinals against UCLA, the second-highest postseason total in school history.

Busboom, a four-year starter who helped NU to a 124-10 record, was selected AVCA All-Central Region honorable mention as a setter during her sophomore campaign. She was plugged into a 6-2 system as a junior in leading the Huskers to a national title match in 2005. In 2003, she tallied the second-highest total assists (700) by a Husker freshman after splitting time in a 6-2 offense.

Busboom joins setters Lindsey Hunter (Papillion, Neb.), Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.) and Ashley Nu'u (Aurora, Colo.), liberos Sarah Drury (Louisville, Ky.), Candace Lee (Eugene, Ore.), Jillian Davis (La Canada, Calif.) and Allison Anderson (Moraga, Calif.), and outside hitters Kelly Bowman (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Kristen Fenton (Marysville, Mich.). Bowman has been cross-training as an opposite, setter and libero.

Additional players may be added to the national training team at a later date. In addition, USA Volleyball will conduct a second open tryout Feb. 23-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

The majority of the veteran Team USA players are currently playing professional indoor volleyball in Europe, Asia and Brazil. The complete team will return to Colorado Springs in late April or early May to prepare for the Pan American Cup held June 15-24.
