"Yes I did," Hayes said. "It was last weekend. I was in Lincoln in Coach Bill Callahan's office and they offered me the greyshirt."
Hayes played offense and defense this fall for Papillion - LaVista. Nebraska hasn't really pegged Hayes for where he could potentially play. One position surprised even him.
"Nebraska is looking at me to either play linebacker, wide receiver and maybe as a fullback. It could be any of those. I was surprised about the fullback."
The Papillion - LaVista season could have gone a little better. They finished up the season at 4-6. There were some opportunities to make the season better in the win-loss column, but they just couldn't close out some games.
"Our season was a little shaky. In the end, you always think that you could have been a little bit better. A lot of close games. We just couldn't finish."
Hayes wasn't aware of his stats from this past season. Last year he made a splash receiving state honors as a junior at defensive end. This year he earned honors on both sides of the football.
"I played wide receiver and defensive end this season again. I was all-state honorable mention as a wide receiver, second team all-metro as a defensive end and first team all-district as a wide receiver."
Hayes is pumped about the opportunity to be a Husker. He will be enrolling at Nebraska this fall and will be entering into the Nebraska weight lifting program as soon as he can.
"I think that I am going to go to Lincoln in the fall, like anyone would. I will be on a weight lifting program. I should be getting a book on this soon."
