Big Red Radio Interview with Buena HS (Sierra Vista, AZ) athlete, Jake Muasau

THE SKINNY

Nebraska first offer. Teammate of running back Jamal Womble, who has five offers right now

Jamal and Jake are best friends

Thoughts on the Nebraska offer

"It was unreal. When Jamal had called me and when he told me, I didn't believe it. Next thing you know, I look on Scout.com and then I got a call from a recruit in Phoenix and he told me Nebraska had offered me.

"I know that Nebraska is a football state and that they have a really good program."

Knowledge of Nebraska prior to the offer

"Not much."

What he's learned about Nebraska since the offer

"I know that the city is nothing but football and it's pretty much nothing but football in Lincoln."

Position being recruited to play

"Coach (Bill) Busch said he likes me at safety and at outside linebacker."

Opinion on playing defense, when most of his prep experience has been at wideout

"It's whatever is best for the program. My choice would be to play wide receiver, because that's why I go to all these combines as a wide receiver. I try to show my skills and my speed."

Position preference dictating which schoool he chooses

"No, sir."

Ultimate criteria for school

"I'd have to saw how its history looks and how many student-athletes the conference I go to graduates."

Playing at same college with Jamal

"We both would want to go to the same college, but realistically, whatever comes down to it, we'll probably have to split up and go our separate ways."

Other teams interested

Oregon State, Oregon, UCLA, CAL, Boise State

Knowing some of the future Huskers from Arizona

"I went to middle school with Jaivorio Burkes and Prince Amukamara."

On using them as a knowledge base about Nebraska

"I talked to them over on myspace.com. They tell me it's great and I need to go out there and I'd like it more if I went out there and visit."

Potential plans for a visit

"Yes sir. Sometime during the summer - probably a camp up there."

Mentality as a football player

"I just strive for perfection. I try to get better every play and give my all every single play."

Jamal saying that he's (Jake) underrated

"I am not trying to get cocky or anything, I did really good at past combines, but haven't really got any notification for it."

Goals during off season

"Just keep lifting, work on speed and agility and just get ready for next season."

Individual goals

"To be an all-state DB and wide receiver."

Position he sees himself playing in college

"Realistically, I think I will probably be playing defensive back in college. Colleges tell me I am not fast enough to play wide receiver and that I have the frame to put on a lot more weight and still keep my speed."

On when he plans to decide on school

"I am going to wait until after my senior season to commit."

Nebraska having a shot at an official visit

"Most definitely."

What Nebraska being the first offer means

"It's a big first step, because having Nebraska as a first offer - that's pretty big, knowing how they are in football.

GPA
