Nebraska tops the list

Once we again we bring you the best of both worlds, combining audio and text so that you get the FULL scoop on just what's going on with a recruit. And this time we head out west to Edison HS in Fresno, CA. Safety Brandon Leslie didn't play all of last year due to an injury, but that hasn't stopped his name from blowing up all over the west coast and Nebraska was his first offer.

Brandon Leslie - Safety - Edison HS (Fresno, CA)

Missed all of last season with shoulder injury

Opinion on if suprised recruiting attention has only increased, despite the lost season

Yes, I am surprised. I didn't expect it to pick up so heavy since I didn't play my whole junior year, but I am looking forward to seeing what happens after I hit up a couple of camps and hopefully everything turns out well before my senior year."

Offers from Nebraska, Stanford, Air Force, Washington, Arizona, Georgia Tech

Looking at picking up a couple of more this week, from San Jose State and potentially Notre Dame.

Unofficially visited Notre Dame for their spring game

Thoughts on Notre Dame

"It's big time football. It was a real good experience for me. The fans, a lot of support. I had a pretty good time up there."

On looking at Notre Dame the same as everyone else

"Yeah, depth chart is a big factor for me. The distance away from home and the weather - that's not really a big factor. Academics is real big. I have to have the opportunity to play coming in. If I have to redshirt, that's not a problem. I'll do that and it's just going to make me better. I just have to have a good relationship with the coaches.

On his description of an ideal safety

"I'd say Troy Palamalu from the PIttsburgh Steelrs. I can cover a lot of groud, tight ends, slot receivers, or a running back coming out of the backfield or a wide receiver, because I play free safety. I can match up in the box at strong safety or outside linebacker as well. I can also cover any receiver just as well as any corner can."

On Nebraska being able to compete with schools closer to home and in the Pac 10.

"They are definitely at the top. Not necessarily that I am going to be in the Pac 10. I say I am wide open, but I have my ideas of my top schools. Nebraska is at the top of my list, they offered me first and they show me a lot of love still. Coach Wagner is a good guy. Coach Callahan is a great coach. Nebraska is big time football. They've got a lot of support. Their fans love their players."

Interest in USC/Nebraska game

"I am definitely going to watch that game. If I don't commit early, I will be taking official at some point during the year, maybe to see that game in Lincoln, Nebraska. But if I commit early, I will only take a trip to the school I commit to. I don't know if I am going to wait or commit early at this point."

Schools showing the most interest right now

Nebraska, Washington, Georgia Tech and Arizona

Importance of relationship with coaches recruiting him

"That's a really big factor. I have to have a really good relationship with three coaches. That's the head coach, the defensive coordinator and the defensive back coach. We have to have a great relationship, becuase they are going to be taking care of me for the next four our five years.

Importance of going to a school more known for their football than their academics or vice versa

"Academics always comes first, because you are always one injury away. Football is a plus. I do have to go somewhere I can enjoy football and get a good education. I have to go somewhere, also, where it's big time football. That's what is going to get me the scholarship. Football is right up there, right underneath academics."

"And they have to continue to show me a lot of love. Coaches text me to check on my family and stuff."

On if he were to make an early decisiion, who his top teams are at this point

Nebraska, first of all. They offered me first (and) that really means a lot to me.
Georgia Tech came out to watch me practice and offered me that day
Washington, Coach Williams, and when he was at CAL, he recruited a couple of players who are starting at CAL now
Arizona- We took an unofficial there with my teammates for the spring game. It's a good school and I really enjoyed that trip.

I'm not really sure about the fifth

Where Notre Dame would be if they offered

That would put them at the top, but I haven't heard much from them the last couple of weeks.

On just when early is early

Maybe towards the end (of summer), maybe July, maybe late on in July.

Unofficial visits taken

Arizona, Notre Dame, CAL, USC, UCLA

Plan on unofficial to Nebraska

"Possibly, maybe a camp or just an unofficial to check things out, get a feel for the coaches and talk to some of the players and stuff like that."

"It's kind of in the air right now. There's a really strong possibility."
