Hill prepares for life as a Husker

If there is a position on the offensive side of the football that could stand some depth and play-making ability, then it might be tight end. Nebraska just hasn't had the deep-threat tight end that they have grown accustomed to having in their offense in the past few years. Ryan Hill isn't getting a lot of talk about coming in and playing early, but there could be a need.

What off-season? Ryan Hill finished up football and went immediately into baseball. The 6-foot-3 and 230-pound tight end from Arvada (Colo.) West went right from football to baseball this year.

"Currently, we are in the state playoffs for baseball," Hill said. "I play centerfield and pitcher."

"We just got through districts. We are in the semis right now. I went straight from football to workouts for baseball."

The time between football and baseball was very limited as the time that he has available to do football workouts. He is doing his best, but it hasn't been a lot.

"I have been giving some weight lifting programs, and I am trying to lift as much as I can right now, but baseball is taking a lot of time. It's kind of hard to do it."

Hill is looking forward the most to getting to Lincoln to meet up with the other commitments. One commitment Hill has been in touch with since meeting him on his official visit to Lincoln.

"Meeting all of the new guys in the class, like Quentin Castille. I might be rooming with "Q", but I am not sure."

"We were at the first game for an official visit, with Roy Helu, and we hit it off then. So, we have kept in touch since then."

Hill admitted that he and Castille are still in contact, when that permits. He said that most of the talk has been about the observance that a lot of the people around them have noticed about them since committing to Nebraska.

"We talk probably every other week or so, depending on how busy we are. A lot of talk is about how people feel it's funny now that we are going to Nebraska that we wear red all the time."

"We have always worn red. Now people are starting to make fun of us for doing it all the time. People are just noticing it more. We get a kick out of it."

Hill is an interesting commitment. Since signing, his position coach has changed. He has stayed in touch with the recruiting coach and has had a couple of chances to talk to the new position coach.

"I have been talking with Coach Ted Gilmore the most. I really don't remember the last time I spoke to Coach Shawn Watson."

"I have had a chance to talk with Coach Joe Rudolph a couple of times, but not a lot. I am just looking forward to getting there and getting to meet him."

Hill has plans to get to Lincoln, like so many others, to start summer classes and workouts. "I will be in Lincoln during the summer. I will be there on June 9 to start classes. I will be there for summer classes and I will be there to start working out."
