Huskers debut 7-on-7 camp and tournament

The Summer camps are great. Kids can learn and show off what they can do. But it's the seven-on-seven that gets them going. That's the time where they can not just show off what they can do, but face off against some of the best athletes in the region. Well, Nebraska is accomodating that aspect with a camp all their own, as this year they debut the The Big Red Run-N-Gun 7-on-7 Tournament.

For the first time in Nebraska history, there will be a 7 on 7 tournament as an extension of Big Red Football School. The Big Red Run-N-Gun 7-on-7 tournament will take place in Lincoln on June 23.

The opportunity to now improve as a player and team will include the competition in very real scenarios provided at the Big Red Football School. This is the opportunity for a team building event in the summer to have carry-over into the fall camp.

The real scenario will be provided by Big 12 and High School officiating. More than that, a real-game feel provided by the big screen in Memorial Stadium and music over a sound-system.

Parents, friends and alumni are encouraged to attend. The competition will take place over five different locations on the Nebraska campus consisting of Memorial Stadium, Hawks indoor facility, Husker Fields, Cook Pavillion and the Soccer Fields.

This year the games will be made up of the first 48 teams to register. Information has already been mailed out to every Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas high school with South Dakota later to go out this week.

More than the competition, the chance to come to Lincoln is a perfect opportunity to soak up the environment, check out the amazing facilities and receive hands-on counseling from the coaching staff from Nebraska.

This event is limited to only the first 48 teams to register. This number is expected to rise in the coming years, but this year's tournament has very limited availability. With Nebraska's facilities, there is no doubt it can be done.

To the observer, it's one last chance to get a chance to watch football before fall camp comes around. It's also the chance to see Nebraska's facilities up close and take in the whole experience.

High schools wishing to sign up teams for the first Big Red Run-N-Gun Camp on Saturday, June 23 are encouraged to register soon at or by calling the Nebraska Football Office.

The camp is open to the first 48 registered teams and will have a 7-on-7 team format, and will be the final session of the 2007 Big Red Football School. In addition to giving teams an opportunity to compete against each other in an exciting and fast-paced format, campers will also received individualized instruction from the Husker coaching staff.

The Big Red Run-N-Gun Camp will utilize 12 fields of play, including two in Memorial Stadium and others on Nebraska's practice fields around the stadium.

The day will begin with registration at 9 a.m., followed by orientation and stretching. Teams will go through individual skill instruction to complete the morning, followed by lunch. Pool play will begin at Noon, with the championship portion of the camp set to begin at 3:30 p.m. The championship final is set for 5:45 p.m. in Memorial Stadium, with a trophy presentation to follow.

Each team will consist of at least 10 players, but there is no limit to the number of players on a team. A $250 deposit will hold a team's spot in the camp, and individual schools may enter more than one team.
