Huskers might get visit from Cali DT

Nebraska is looking to grab a few players from California this year and this defensive tackle might be close to the top of that short list. He has the size, speed and strength that you want in a defensive tackle. So far, he has only taken a couple of visits to some schools, but Nebraska might be a school that he sees later this summer.

Besides having to go to summer school, the summer is going pretty good for Armond Armstead. The 6-foot-6 and 290-pound defensive tackle from Elk Grove (Calif.) Pleasant Grove is also getting ready for the upcoming season.

"It's going pretty good," Armstead said. I am just trying to get ready for the season. I am just lifting and doing some conditioning. We are working on some team things and stuff."

Recruiting is still a pretty active thing for Armstead, despite this being a quiet period with the college coaches. Armstead is holding double-digit offers and knew who most of the schools were that have offered off of the top of his head.

"Recruiting is going pretty good. I am up to 11 or 12 offers. They're from USC, Washington, Nebraska, San Diego State, Fresno State, Texas A&M, Arizona and Arizona State and there are some others that I can't remember."

Armstead is looking for a school that he fits in at. There is a need to get a long with the football coaches and he is also looking at the football program as a whole.

"I am looking for a place where I will be the most comfortable. A place where I fee good with the coaching staff and a place that has a good program."

Armstead has already seen a couple schools. He is trying to line up as many as five more trips later this summer. The two trips he has taken have been to two, fairly close schools.

"I visited USC and UCLA so far. I am going to take some more trips to Nebraska, Texas A&M, Arizona and Arizona State later this summer. I will take one to Fresno State this summer probably."

At 6-foot-6 and 290-pounds, Armstead still has 4.9/40 speed. Last year he had 79 tackles and five sacks. His athleticism is clear as he also plays basketball.

"My athleticism, because I am faster and quicker than a lot of guys that are 6-foot-6. If I am going to go against a big guy I can go around him."

No formal plans have been set up to go to Nebraska. The date will either be in late July or early August. Armstead wants to be done with summer school before taking any other trips.

"I haven't set anything up to see Nebraska yet. That would probably happen when I am done with summer school. I am done with summer school in four or five weeks."

Armstead admitted that he didn't know a lot about Nebraska, but he is well aware of their tradition. Armstead also knows that Nebraska has some very nice football facilities.

"I don't know a lot about Nebraska. I know that they were really good in the 90s and they used to win a lot. I heard they also have really nice facilities. Distance won't be a big deal for me."
