Ruud, Slauson Preseason All-Big 12 Picks

Nebraska senior linebacker Bo Ruud and junior offensive lineman Matt Slauson have been chosen as preseason all-conference selections in a Big 12 Conference media poll. In addition, Nebraska senior quarterback Sam Keller was tabbed as the Preseason Newcomer of the Year.

The 6-3, 235-pound Bo Ruud was a first-team All-Big 12 pick by the league's coaches following his junior season. The Lincoln native made 65 tackles as a junior, including seven tackles for loss. He has 162 career tackles and 21 tackles for loss entering his senior campaign.

Matt Slauson is one of six returnees on the Husker offensive line who have starting experience. The 6-5, 335-pound Slauson was a second-team All-Big 12 pick as Nebraska's regular starter at right tackle last season. Slauson helped Nebraska rank in the top 25 nationally in all four major offensive statistical categories. Slauson will begin fall camp at offensive guard.

Sam Keller joined the Nebraska program last August after a productive three-year stint at Arizona State. Keller was the Huskers' Offensive Scout Team MVP last season and racked up more than 3,000 passing yards with the Sun Devils.

The Big 12 media panel also picked Nebraska second in the Big 12 North behind Missouri. The media tabbed Texas as the preseason favorite in the South Division.

Coaches and student-athletes from all 12 conference schools will meet the media next Monday through Wednesday at Big 12 Media Days in San Antonio. Nebraska will take its turn in front of the media on Monday.

Nebraska will begin fall practice on Monday, Aug. 6, with the season opener against Nevada set for Saturday, Sept. 1 on ABC, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
