Husker fans snap up 1000 tickets

More than 1,000 tickets to Nebraska home football games against Nevada and Ball State flew out of the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office in less than 10 minutes Tuesday morning, after NU made the tickets available to fans after the tickets were returned by the visitors.

With Husker fans waiting by their computers and phones for the sale of more than 500 tickets for each of NU's two homes against Nevada (Sept. 1) and Ball State (Sept. 22), tickets sold out by 8:10 a.m.

With a sellout streak that will hit 283 consecutive games in the Huskers' season opener with the Wolf Pack on Sept. 1, it is no surprise the tickets went fast.

"With the visiting teams returning portions of their allotments, it made it possible for us to make some more Husker fans happy this morning,"Nebraska Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Ticketing Diane Mendenhall said. "This was a great opportunity for some of our fans who might not be season ticket holders to come to a Husker game early in the season."

For those fans who were unable to purchase tickets Tuesday to watch the Huskers in person at Memorial Stadium, Nebraska still has tickets available for road games at Kansas and Colorado, that were made available to Husker fans this morning. Tickets must be purchased by phone at 1-800-8BIGRED or in person at the Athletic Ticket Office next to Huskers Authentic in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage.

Nebraska also had approximately 300 tickets available for the Huskers' road game at Missouri on Tuesday that sold out before 10 a.m. Those tickets were not available for purchase on

Nebraska opens its season against Nevada with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff that includes an ABC regional telecast. NU's road opener at Wake Forest will be televised nationally by ESPN, and the Huskers' Sept. 15 showdown with No. 1 USC at Memorial Stadium is set for an ABC national primetime telecast.
