Check out some news and notes from today's Big 12 Teleconference with Nebraska Head Coach Bill Callahan
Bill Callahan said that Sam Keller is done for the season, out due to what he described as a shoulder injury
suffered against Texas this last weekend. Junior Joe Ganz will
be the starting quarterback for the Kansas game and Callahan said that he and the
staff would deliberate over the week as to who would occupy the number two spot,
between junior Beau Davis and freshman Patrick Witt.
Also out for the season following
an injury from the Texas game was senior linebacker Lance Brandenburgh. Brandenburgh has served both back up and starting duty for the
Huskers this year, and has played both outside linebacker positions.
Senior linebacker Bo Ruud and
freshman linebacker Blake Lawrence did not make the trip down to Austin this last Saturday,
both still recovering from injuries suffered against Texas A&M. Coach
Callahan said that their status this week is still questionable, but the head
coach did say he was hopeful, at least for Ruud, to be available this week.
Coach Callahan was asked about a
TV interview done recently with interim Athletic Director Tom Osborne, where
Osborne said "new coaching staff" when talking about, amongst other things, the
walk-on program at Nebraska. Callahan deflected those comments,
deferring them to Osborne himself. "Everyone has told me that his word (Tom
Osborne) means quite a bit (and) that he's got great integrity. So, I think that
you would have to address Tom on that."
