Thursday Practice Report

Nebraska continues preparations inside of Cook Pavilion as they ready for their road trip down to College Station to play the favored, Texas A&M Aggies. Coach Solich addressed the situations regarding Chris Kelsay and other players that may or may not be ready to go.

The biggest announcement after practice today was in regards to Chris Kelsay. No, it wasn't that he would be ready to play as his status is still "day to day". It had been recently announced that Chris Kelsay is one of 14 recipients of the National Football Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship. The honoree receives an $18.000.00 scholarship for postgraduate studies. This award is presented to honorees from all divisions in the NCAA as well as the NAIA and Kelsay is one of six honorees from Division 1-A. "We are really pleased." Coach Solich said about Kelsay receiving the award. "It's a great honor for Chris and it's a great honor for our players."

The receiving of this award also qualifies Kelsay for the HealthSouth Draddy Trophy, awarded to the top scholar athlete in the nation. Nebraska has had two winners of this award, Offensive lineman, Rob Zatechka and Rush End, Kyle VandenBosch.

Again, Kelsay's status is still up in the air, but considering the layoff he has had for the past three weeks, it's doubtful Kelsay will be playing this weekend against the Aggies. "It's a tough situation when you haven't been out there working out, but any way you look at it, his being there will be a plus for us in terms of leadership and what he's all about." Solich stated.

The emphasis on this up-coming game has been one of Nebraska finding a way to not only beat the other guy, bust most importantly not beating themselves. Mental mistakes have been the bane of NU's effectiveness on both sides of the ball from coaches to players. NU's QB, Jammal Lord will also be seen as a person that will be a major factor in what NU is able to do to try and keep up with the Aggies, now potent attack. "It's a big game for all of us." Solich stated. "We're all pressing to get the road win. As far as Jammal is concerned, he's played very well, has gotten better as the season has gone along and so I think he is confident and the players are confident in him."

Coach Solich stated that DeAntae Grixby will not be suiting up for this game as he was the one player currently listed as injured that could have been a possibility to play in the game.
