Smith set to see Nebraska

If there is one new name on the recruiting radar since Bo Pelini came to Lincoln it's probably P.J. Smith. The Huskers are looking for some help in the defensive secondary after losing a starting safety and their two starting cornerbacks. Smith could fill a big hole and Nebraska has rocketed up the list of Smith.

P.J. Smith from River Ridge (La.) John Curtis Christian tells it how it is. The 6-foot-4 and 190-pound defensive back is heading up to Lincoln this weekend and he's excited.

"I am heading up to Nebraska this weekend," Smith said. "I am excited to take that trip."

Like so many, this will be the first time for Smith to visit Nebraska. There is a need to cover a lot of ground this weekend.

"This will be my first time up that way, so I want to see everything. I want to see what they are working with."

With Nebraska coming in a little late in the process, one has to wonder if Nebraska stands a chance with Smith. Smith says, definitely.

"I like Nebraska. They are on top of my list. They are really up there on my list."

Why Smith likes Nebraska so much is simple. The new head coach and the style of defense that he runs is enough for Smith to put Nebraska high on his list.

"Coach Bo Pelini. I like his style. I like how he manages the game. In fact, they were just here, Coach John Papuchis."

Smith is a two-sport standout. On the hardwood, Smith is nearly averaging a double-double. His future will be on the gridiron though.

"I play forward in basketball, but really all over. I am averaging about 19 points a game and about eight boards. Close to a double-double."
