Big Safety chooses Huskers

The success that Bo Pelini had at LSU, defensively, is paying off with this recruit. This big safety basically emerged with Nebraska about the time that LSU was preparing to play Ohio State in the national championship game. Weeks later, he was up in Lincoln for an official visit. It was enough then to want to become a Husker, but this recruit waited until today to formally pull the trigger.

P.J. Smith is a Husker. The 6-foot-4 and 190-pound safety, from River Ridge (La.) John Curtis Christian, committed verbally to the head coach of Nebraska earlier today.

"I committed to Bo Pelini earlier today," Smith said. "I wanted to keep it quiet for longer than that, but an article was released and I couldn't stop it."

Smith wasn't into giving a lot of details about the commitment. Smith did divulge that the papers will be signed early on Wednesday and that there would be a press conference later that day to talk about it.

"I really am not going to say much more about it, today. I am going to sign with Nebraska on Wednesday morning and then I will hold a press conference later that day."

Big Red Report will follow up more with Smith and his coach, J.T. Curtis, later to talk about the commitment to Nebraska.
