Griffin Earns Big 12 Honor

Junior Kelsey Griffin captured Big 12 Player-of-the-Week honors for her outstanding play for the Nebraska women's basketball team last week, the league office announced on Monday.

It is Kelsey Griffin's third Big 12 Player-of-the-Week award of her career, including the first of the 2007-08 season.

The 6-2 forward from Eagle River, Alaska, averaged 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for the Huskers against No. 18 Kansas State and Missouri last week. In Sunday's win at Missouri, Griffin poured in a season-high 23 points, including 17 in the second half, to power Nebraska to a 73-67 victory.

Griffin fueled NU's comeback from a 14-point deficit with 8:30 left in the game, by helping the Huskers score on 19 of their final 20 possessions. She hit 7-of-11 shots from the field and 9-of-12 free throws in 30 minutes of action. In the final 12 minutes of the game, she had 15 points, two rebounds, a blocked shot, a steal and an assist.

In the Huskers' 77-75 loss to No. 18 Kansas State on Wednesday, Griffin posted her fourth double-double of the season and third in Big 12 play with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Griffin, a first-team All-Big 12 performer for NU as a sophomore, is leading the Huskers with 15.1 points and 8.0 rebounds in Big 12 action. Over the last four games, she is averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

For the season, Griffin is averaging 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game despite playing the entire year with a cracked rib suffered in NU's exhibition finale against Nebraska-Omaha on Nov. 5. The injury forced Griffin out of Nebraska's starting lineup for the final four games of the non-conference season.

Nebraska, 16-6 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12, tips off the second half of the conference campaign by taking on Colorado in Boulder on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. Central time with television coverage provided by FSN Rocky Mountain. The game will not be available on TV stations in Nebraska, but can be seen by DirecTV subscribers on Channel 645 and DISH Network subscribers on Channel 414.

A live radio broadcast will be available on the Husker Sports Network, including 98.1 KFGE in Lincoln, and for free on
