The Nebraska women's basketball team opens play at the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Championship in Kansas City, Mo., by taking on Kansas.
Tip-off between the sixth-seeded
Huskers and 11th-seeded Jayhawks at Municipal Auditorium is set for 8:30 p.m.,
with live television coverage provided in Lincoln by MyTV digital cable channel 110
(local DirecTV channel 25). It will also be available in central Nebraska on Charter cable
Live radio coverage will be provided
by the 24-state Husker Sports Network, including a free audio broadcast on
Huskers.com with Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch on the call.
Nebraska heads into
the Big 12 Tournament with momentum after closing the season with a pair of wins
to complete season sweeps of North Division rivals Colorado and Iowa State. The Huskers closed the regular
season with a solid 55-45 win over the Cyclones to notch their first
regular-season sweep of ISU since 1995.
Senior forward Danielle Page played
her final game at the Devaney Center and led the Huskers with 11 points,
five rebounds and three blocked shots. Her third block increased her season
total to 69, tying the Nebraska single-season record set by Janet
Smith in 1979-80. Page enters the Big 12 Tournament with 198 career
First-team All-Big 12 forward Kelsey Griffin added 10 points and seven boards for the Huskers. Over the last 10
averaged 19 points and 8.7 rebounds per game to finish the conference season
with averages of 16.8 points and 8.2 boards per game. During league action she
ranked among the top 10 players in the Big 12 in scoring, rebounding, field goal
percentage and free throw percentage.
addition to NU's dynamic inside duo of Griffin and Page, guard Yvonne Turner leads a
young and deep Husker backcourt. Turner, who scored 11 points in the win over
State, averaged 9.8 points,
3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and a Big 12-leading 2.6 steals per game in conference
action. She also hit 24-of-61 threes (39.3 percent).
