"Yes sir, I am heading up to Nebraska this weekend," Burkhead said. "I just made the plans a few days ago. My dad and I have been talking about it the past couple of days.
"I have been talking to the coaches and they are real excited about the spring game there. They wanted me to try and come up. I found out it's sold out and what better place is there to go than to Nebraska for a spring game, really?"
Burkhead, a 5-foot-11.5 and 196-pound running back/wide receiver from Plano, said that he has been trying to get in touch with the Nebraska coaches for weeks and about as soon as he got the offer the plans were being made to attend the spring game.
"I got the offer from Nebraska last week when I spoke to them. I have been trying to get in touch with them for about three weeks. I'd get his emails and letters saying sorry we missed on the calls.
"The coach that is recruiting me just had a baby a few weeks ago and is in the middle of spring practices. I know that things are crazy up there right now with practices."
The atmosphere in Lincoln this weekend should be amazing considering this is just a scrimmage. It's a sell out in Memorial Stadium, there will be around 100 recruits in attendance and there is a new staff in Lincoln.
"It's going to be awesome. I am looking forward to seeing the big crowd there. I am looking forward to seeing all the hype around the big game.
"I want to see how the players interact with the coaches, I want to see the campus, the facilities and basically everything that Nebraska has to offer."
Nebraska will lose Marlon Lucky at the end of this year. Lucky had an amazing year last year with 77 receptions, bettering the record by 20 receptions, so it's no wonder why they like Burkhead as a running back.
"Nebraska sees me playing as a running back. I think that is best for my abilities too. My ability to catch the ball as a running back really has Nebraska interested as well. I am not just a runner, but I can catch the ball."
