Alabama CB Grabs First

Jonathan Edwards, cornerback from Central of Tuscaloosa, (Ala.), has been anxiously awaiting his first scholarship offer which has finally arrived. The talented playmaker recorded 15 interceptions as a junior, and one school has taken notice.

"I received an offer from Southern Miss," said Jonathan Edwards. "I felt pretty good to receive the offer. I have talked to one of their coaches a few times. They have been recruiting me for a while."

"I know Southern Miss has a brand new coaching staff. They are looking for some defensive backs. They are not very deep on the depth chart. I am really thinking about going there."

Edwards will have a busy summer planning trips to several camps.

"I am going to Nebraska and to the Scout.com combine in Kansas City," he stated. "I plan to camp at Alabama and Auburn as well. I just hope to go to these camps to prove I can play on the D-I level."

Edwards does not list any favorites, but stated South Alabama and Nebraska as showing the most interest.

The Central Falcons went undefeated in 2007 and won the Class 4A state championship. They were lead on defense by Edwards, and he's looking forward to another great season.

"Our spring training went very well," he explained. "I think it went better than it was last year. I feel like I have improved a lot. I have improved on my all-around game. I have begun seeing things a lot better. This summer I want to improve my speed."
