Sirles gives Lincoln a thumbs up!

Yesterday was the start of the first session of camps in Lincoln, but it was also a big day for a visitor. The Huskers were hosting arguably one of their top offensive line targets on Sunday. After rolling out the red carpet for him the Huskers find themself sitting in his top three. What did this offensive lineman like about Lincoln and who are the other two teams?

It was a big weekend for Nebraska who got a chance to host Jeremiah Sirles. Sirles, a 6-foot-8 and 300-pound offensive tackle from Lakewood (Colo.) Bear Creek, had a good visit.

"Yes sir, I was in Lincoln," Sirles said. "I loved it. I really did. I thought the visit was a lot of fun."

One of the things that Sirles wanted to see was the vision of the new Nebraska staff after a couple of hard years in Lincoln.

"The tradition is back. I spent a lot of time with Coach Bo Pelini and Barney Cotton yesterday. I got a chance to meet all of the coaches too. I spent an hour and a half with Bo."

Sirles said that he and Coach Pelini could have talked longer, but it was necessary to keep the visit moving. The visit though between Sirles and Pelini was necessary.

"When I got the offer from Nebraska, considering what has happened there recently, I didn't know what to think about it.

"I had a lot of questions about the team and the school. I questioned the tradition. With Bo and Tom Osborne back in Lincoln, the tradition is back."

The visit wasn't a long one, but it was enough to rocket Nebraska into the top teams on Sirles list. That top teams list is very short and elite company with Sirles.

"Nebraska is definitely in my top three. The other two are Oregon and Louisville. With those three, I definitely like their coaching staffs. Don't get me wrong, other programs have great coaches too.

"I just feel like those three head coaches at those schools aren't going anywhere and that I have had a good time talking with them. All three can also give me a chance to compete in my redshirt freshman year."

Sirles isn't done with visits this summer. The next is coming next weekend on the heels of a wedding in Chicago. There are plans beyond next weekend too.

"We go to Chicago next weekend for a wedding. That means I will have a chance to visit Northwestern. I called Oregon and am going to try and get out there.

"Flights are cheap to Portland right now so we can make that trip. I would like to get to Louisville, but it's more expensive to travel there. That might have to wait until my official visit."

The Huskers only hosted Sirles and his father yesterday. Mom was not able to make the trip and that may work out to the advantage for Nebraska and hosting Sirles again.

"My mom wants to see Lincoln this summer. She wasn't there this weekend, just me and my dad, and she would like to see it. At this point, Nebraska would also get an official visit from me as well."

Sirles mentioned that his process will come to an end fairly early in the season. "I will take some of my official visits and then probably commit in the middle of the season or so."
