Huskers after Blake

Nebraska lost four wide receivers last year to graduation and will graduate their top two this year. There is a need for the Huskers to continue to develop their West Coast Offense as well as just playmakers on the outside. The Huskers have their eyes on a wide receiver from the middle of Texas that could potentially come in and do just that.

Emory Blake from Austin (Texas) is a 6-foot-1 and 195-pound receiver that is just dangerous when he gets the football in his hands. Blake has 4.4 speed to go along with his 34" vertical jump.

"I am being recruited for receiver," Blake said. "As a sophomore I had 28 receptions for 525 yards and four touchdowns. Last year I had 38 rushes for 289 yards and two scores and 22 receptions for 412 yards and five touchdowns playing wide receiver.

"My sophomore year I was picked for first team Nike All-American underclassmen and I was also an all-district selection. Last year I was also an all-district pick."

Blake is really known to be a technician of the game. If you want a polished wide receiver then leave it to Blake. But, what hurts defenses is when they underestimate one part of his game.

"I am a good route runner and I have good hands. People just don't know or think that I have good speed, but I do. I ran a 10.62, 100m."

Lots of teams have stepped up to offer Blake. The total number is impressive and so are some of the teams on that list. "I have 17 or 18 offers with a grey shirt possibility as well.

"I have offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas State, Northwestern, Texas Tech and Oregon are the ones that I can think of right now. Texas offered me a grey shirt."

With a lot of opportunities comes a need to narrow things down. Blake is looking to do that soon over this summer. He hasn't gotten around to doing it yet.

"I know that I have to start narrowing things down. Any team right now can come in and change my mind at anytime right now. I am still open. I am looking for good coaching, nice facilities, a good fan base and a good atmosphere."

Blake has taken some trips so far this year. So far he has been to see Texas, Tulsa and LSU. "I am still planning some things. I would like to see USC and I am going to make it up to see Texas Tech, Missouri or Colorado."

One of the teams that Blake has started to research and knows a little about is Nebraska. He knows about the need for wide receivers in their offense and even had a chance to see them play last year.

"I got an offer from them about two months ago. I got the actual paperwork about a month ago. I know that they run the West Coast Offense and have a good quarterback.

"I know that they like to throw the ball to their wide receivers too. I went to see them play last season against Texas and I was impressed with their passing offense. It was a good game."

Blake said he has spoken with multiple coaches at Nebraska, but believes that Shawn Watson is his recruiting coach. Nebraska is a team that Blake says will probably get an official visit this fall. Blake plans on taking all five official visits.

Blake claims to bench press 225 pounds, squat 360 and clean 220. He also says that he currently has a 2.8 GPA and is awaiting his results from his SAT test.
