A glimpse of things to come?

While the Husker Nation is excited about the idea of getting a player like Cody Green to Nebraska, it's not without risk. Green, for all intensive purposes, is still coming off of a serious ankle injury and surgery, but if the other night is any indication he is well on his way to a total and complete recovery.

Scrimmages are just that; scrimmages. However, for Cody Green, it's the first time he's been playing contact football, full go, since his ankle injury a year ago.

The injury was serious enough to cut short the season and require surgery for Green. Dayton (Texas) is getting ready for their season and had a scrimmage the other night. Green had a big night.

"I would give you a little insight to Cody's first game action back last night," Coach Jeff Nations said. "In a scrimmage against a top area team he had 274 yards passing with one touchdown and 84 yards rushing with 1 touchdown coming on a 52 yard run."

These stats were just through a half of play as he and Houston commitment, A.J. Dugat, were held out of the second half. While the numbers are very good for Green, the real test was the ankle and not playing the quarterback position.

"He had two picks but really played well coming back from the surgery," Coach Jeff Nations continued. "He threw several frozen ropes to receivers and did a good job of leading the offense."

Dayton, projected to win their district (19-4A) returns six starters on each side of the football from a state semi-final playoff team a year ago after going 11-4 and 6-1 in conference.
