Byrd sets Nebraska official

The cornerback position is one of high importance for Nebraska. There is a need for players at the cornerback position and the Huskers got a commitment from DeAndre Byrd from Tallahassee (Flor.) Lincoln back in August. Now it's about time for Byrd to come up to Nebraska and check out where he will be playing football and living for the next four or five years.

Tallahassee (Flor.) Lincoln is one of those seasons that just re-loads from year to year. This year, DeAndre Byrd and the other seniors at Lincoln have led their team to a 2-0 start on the season.

"Our season has started off good," Byrd said. "We are 2-0 now. I have two interceptions through the first two games with an interception in each game."

It's kind of surprising that Byrd has any interceptions because one might think that teams wouldn't challenge him. They don't a lot, but when they do he has to take advantage.

"I don't get a lot of chances. The teams will usually try and throw the ball away from my side of the field usually. When they do throw my way I have to make the best of it."

The Huskers picked up a commitment from Byrd back in August. The recruiting coach for Byrd is also the head coach for Nebraska and they are staying in consistent communication.

"Nebraska and I are staying in contact a lot. Coach Bo Pelini is my recruiting coach and we talk a lot. He has been telling me that things are going good.

"I know that they are 3-0 and undefeated, but Coach Pelini has been saying that they are playing pretty well and that they are excited for me to come up on a visit."

Byrd has his official visit set to Nebraska for his bye weekend during the season. This will be Byrd's first chance to get up and see Nebraska having committed to Nebraska, sight unseen.

"I am going November 7. It's our bye weekend. It's the weekend before we play Godsby. I want to see players having fun out there and the coaches treating the players like family.

"At the game, I am hoping to see the fans going crazy at the game. Those are the things that I want to see. I want to see all of it."

When Byrd gets up to Lincoln, there aren't a lot of things that he is looking for in the town, the campus or the facilities. Instead, he wants to see a cohesive football team.

"I am looking to find great coaches. I want to be treated like family. I also want to see a tight family of players. I want to see players that treat their team mates like family."

Byrd has had a chance to see Nebraska on pay per view this season all ready. What he likes the most about Nebraska is the fact that they are young and are coming up.

"I did get a chance to see Nebraska once on TV this season. Their corners are good. Nebraska is coming up, they are undefeated, and that is what I like. They are coming up."
