Carpenter ready for first official

Last time Big Red Report spoke to three star defensive back Anthony Carpenter, he said he thought staying closer to home was probably the best thing for him. It seems a few things have changed since then and Big Red Report caught with the talented athlete to get the latest. Will distance from home be a factor?

As Nebraska rounds out its '09 recruiting class, it seems there has been an emphasis on getting defensive backs in for visits. Another one of those talented players is Anthony Carpenter from Gardena (Cali.) Junipero Serra high school. Anthony is all set to take his first official this weekend, and he gave us his thoughts on the upcoming visit.

"Yes sir, I am headed out to Nebraska this weekend to see them play Missouri with my parents," said Carpenter. "I've heard a lot of great things about the program, now I will get to see it up close. It should be a good trip, I'm looking forward to it."

As already mentioned, last time BRR talked with Anthony, he said that distance from home could play a role in his decision. But after having time to think about his options, leaving for college might not be such a bad thing.

"Yeah I'm open to everybody now, I don't need to stay around here for college. I just want to play some good football at a good program. I kind of thought about it, and where the school is located shouldn't really matter."

Carpenter also talked about where the Nebraska staff sees him fitting in. With an official set for later in the year to Washington State, Carpenter was asked if a commitment this weekend was a possibility.

"I'll be honest, I have been thinking about it, but I just don't know yet. I might wait it out and see what happens, or I might make a decision. I'm supposed to take another visit to Washington State on November 8, so I might just make my decision after that."

Carpenter is a full go academically. Big Red Report will touch base with Anthony after his visit and get his reaction.
