Big Nebraska JR takes trip

The program at Beatrice (Nebr.) has consistently put out some talent over the recent years. Next year might be their best shot to have a player pick up a division one offer though. There is a 6-foot-4 and 275-pound defensive tackle/offensive tackle that has been on multiple trips to Lincoln, went to Norman this last weekend and is getting attention from LSU and Oregon as well.

There weren't a lot of visitors in for this last weekend in Norman, but one definitely stood out. A 6-foot-4 and 275-pound tackle from Beatrice (Nebr.) names Jesse Hinz was in town for the weekend.

"I was in Norman this last weekend," Hinz said. "It was really cool. I am really glad that I went. I just really liked how unified the team was. They have a lot of tradition, I really like it there.

"I have been up to many visits to Nebraska when they take you on the tour and stuff. I just thought that Oklahoma felt a lot more unified as a team than Nebraska."

Beatrice is having a very good year, as they were predicted to do, and if everything goes to plan they will end up in the state championship game.

"It's going really good. We are district champs. We are 7-1. We were pre-season ranked #2 and we lost to Waverly. Hopefully we will make it to the state championship."

Hinz plays both-ways for Beatrice anchoring the tackle position on both sides of the ball. Hinz indicated that he has a preference in which side of the ball he plays.

"I am playing both ways, offensive and defensive tackle. I would have to say that I like defense better. I am playing more three-technique. There aren't any boundaries when you play defense.

"You really just go out there and just play hard and make plays. On offense, you have to think about who you are going to block and on defense they really just let you go."

Hinz is still looking for that first offer. However, he is getting a lot of attention for a player from Beatrice. He did a great job of promoting himself this summer at a combine in Texas.

"I don't have any offers yet, but I am getting a lot of letters from division one schools. I have been getting a lot of letters from LSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Oregon.

"I went down to the Nike combine in Dallas with a few other players. I know that there were a lot of scouts there and I know that our coach does a good job of getting our names out there."

Like so many from the state of Nebraska, growing up Hinz dreamt of becoming a Husker. Now, with other possible opportunities, he says that the decision might get very difficult.

"Oh yeah. There is no doubt that growing up that I wanted to be a Cornhusker. I know that right now if I had to decide between Nebraska and some of those other schools I wouldn't be able to tell you."

Hinz has been up to Nebraska quite a bit since the summer. He has been to a camp and this weekend will be the fourth game that he will take in as an unofficial visitor.

"I went up to camp there this summer. I have been on three unofficial visits so far this year and another Saturday for the Baylor game. I don't know who the recruiting coach is for me."
