Huskers impress Gomes

Nebraska has had good success looking in the junior college ranks for cornerbacks. The Huskers brought in Zack Bowman, now with the Chicago Bears, and Armando Murillo who will likely follow Bowman to the NFL as well. Dejon Gomes has to consider that plus everything else that he saw in Lincoln this weekend.

Nebraska is looking for some longing cornerbacks and went back to a junior college they are familiar with. Dejon Gomes, from San Francisco (Calif.) C.C. was in Lincoln this weekend.

"I am at the airport," Gomes said. "It was a good experience. I liked the game atmosphere and the fan support that the team has."

Gomes liked what he saw from the Huskers on the field, particularly on defense. He knows that game on Friday wasn't as close as the score indicated.

"I can definitely see myself fitting in on the Blackshirt defense. If you take away a couple of big plays it wasn't much of a game.

"All 11 guys on the field give all their effort when they are on the field and I really like that. I like how their defense plays."

Gomes was already holding an offer from Nebraska, but did not commit on his visit. He will make at least one more trip before he decides.

"I didn't commit. I didn't really think about committing. I am going take my visit to Houston and Kansas or UCLA possibly. I go to Houston December 12."

There is a need to immediately upgrade the corner position and according to Gomes he can enroll early. "Coach Ted Gilmore is recruiting me. I can enroll at mid-term."

The weekend couldn't have been a lot better for Gomes. There was an issue with his allergies that he experienced while in Nebraska.

"I would say it was about a "9". Nothing with the team could have been any better, but my allergies really acted up here. That takes away from the visit a little."
