Pulls the trigger

If there was an area of the defense that needed to be shored up by recruiting this year then it had to be the secondary. By the looks of it, the Huskers want to get longer and more physical defensive backs. Nebraska had already nabbed Lazarri Middleton yesterday, but the good news wasn't done there.

The Huskers got the commitment of Lazarri Middleton yesterday from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly. Immediately, the Huskers address a need for size in the secondary with his commitment (6-foot-1 and 190-pounds).

However, according to a personal website for Dejon Gomes, he has also decided that the time was right to become a Husker. Gomes is also 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds and comes from a junior college that is familiar with Nebraska, San Francisco (Calif.) City College.

Gomes came away very impressed with the visit to Lincoln after Thanksgiving for the Colorado game despite struggling with allergies on the trip. With the graduation of Armando Murillo, and the need to run the nickel and the dime, both Gomes and Middleton could see their way into contending for playing time next year.

Big Red Report will follow up with Gomes for information regarding this commitment.
